Looking for an Ultimate Vocal Remover alternative?
Here’s how the two compare.
Picking an Ultimate Vocal Remover alternative mostly comes down to where you want to work: in a desktop app you install and tune yourself, or in a browser tab.
Ultimate Vocal Remover, usually called UVR, is a desktop application with its own models and settings. With Mirinex, you pick a file in your browser and work from the result page. Here’s how they line up, with links to UVR’s own site and documentation.
Setup and stems, side by side
Scroll across the table to see both tools.
| Task | Ultimate Vocal Remover | Mirinex |
|---|---|---|
| Getting started | The official site lists Windows, Mac and Linux, and the project README walks you through installing it. | Open the vocal remover in your browser and select Choose a file. |
| Splitting instruments | The README describes its separation models, including Demucs four-stem models. | The vocal remover splits vocals from music. With a Day Pass or Pro, you can also get four stems: vocals, drums, bass and other. |
| Tuning the processing | The troubleshooting guide covers the Segment and Window settings, and the README notes that your hardware affects how long processing takes. | You don’t pick models or settings. The result page gives you listening buttons, a fader for each of the two tracks and download buttons. |
Make a backing track in Mirinex
- Choose your song. Select Choose a file and wait for the separation to finish.
- Listen to the part you need. Select Music for the backing or Vocals for the singer, then press Play.
- Balance the two tracks. Select Both to hear them together, then set the Vocals and Music faders.
- Download. From an audio file, Download mix saves a WAV, and Download both tracks saves the vocals and music as separate WAVs in a ZIP.
Getting four stems for an editor
Under the first result, find Vocals, drums, bass and other instruments and select Split into four stems. This needs a Day Pass or Pro. Without one, the button says Get four stems and shows the plans.
Switch between the Vocals, Drums, Bass and Other buttons to listen, then select Download four WAV stems. Unzip the files and put each one on its own track in your editor, all starting at the same point, and keep them lined up while you rework the arrangement. If you’d like to balance the stems before you download, the Stem splitter puts all four in a mixer with mute, solo and volume on each.
Which one suits you
If you’re happy installing software and want to choose models and settings yourself, UVR’s project documentation is the place to start. If you’d rather go from a song to a downloaded file in a browser tab, Mirinex is set up for that. Whichever you try, run both on the same quiet and busy passages of your song and judge by what you hear.
Separate a song in your browser
Hear the first minute of your own file. A Day Pass or Pro processes the whole thing.
